8 Holiday Activities to do at Home

8 Holiday Activities to do at Home

With a Christmas break right around the corner, here are some of our staff's favourite ways to get cozy at home!

1. Snuggle up with blankets and a book

Get ahead of the curve when it comes to those new year resolutions! This is the perfect time to get started on building a reading habit - get in your comfiest chair, wrap up in a fuzzy throw, and get page-turning!

2. Layer on extra bedding for a midday nap

Our sales team may be addicted blankets - this second tip makes those midday naps extra comfortable by layering on an extra festive blanket over your usual comforters. Try a festive flannel or a wintery patterned shaggy throw!

3. Host a game night

Getting friends together for a board game or splitscreen video game night is an awesome way to share everyone's favourite games and make memories (without the extra calories of eating out). Drinks all around!

4. Call up family to share new recipes

We all know we should be calling our parents and grandparents more - what better way to keep a conversation brewing than a classic family recipe? Share a new dish you've enjoyed or write down an old family favourite. You might find a sleeper hit!

5. Run a movie marathon

Nothing beats committing an afternoon or an entire day off to the couch! Grab the popcorn, gather the family, and run though an entire series (we're partial to The Lord the Rings, ourselves). Just make sure you remember to hydrate and keep those snacks coming!

6. Sort and print your phone photo dumps

We're all guilty of it. Month after month, photos gather up and next thing you know, you're eyeing a new phone with more storage. Why not take the time to revisit the year that was and empty out that photo album? Send off your best to a local print shop to keep those memories forever or upload others to your computer for longterm storage. Do you really need those food pics from last March? Clear 'em out and get ready for the next year!

7. Batch cook some freezer meals

Instead of reaching for the takeout apps, get the new year started right by batch cooking freezer meals! Now's the perfect time to make those meals you're usually too busy for. Lasagna, Shepard's Pie, or Chili all freeze up magnificently for future consumption. Get the kids involved and it's a whole family affair!

8. Enjoy a quiet coffee or teatime

It's been a long year. It's easy to get lost in the list of things to do, places to be, and folks to see. Maybe it's time for some downtime. Get comfortable, grab a warm drink, and stare out the window for a few minutes. Did you know one of our old slogans was "Love Doing Nothing." Should we bring it back?
